Mark Nilsen
After 20 years of performing music in New York City and touring Northern Europe with his band Trance Pop Loops, Mark Nilsen decided to uproot himself and travel to Asia. For 3 years Nilsen has explored Da Ruan music in Beijing, Gamelon in Indonesia, Yue Qin in Taiwan, Dan Bao in Vietnam, Madal drum in Nepal as well as joined countless late night jam sessions with his self built guitars.
Currently Nilsen is finishing the latest Trance Pop Loops album "Come back from the Light" recorded in Brooklyn, New York last year while taking a break from his travels. He is also preparing to revisit his past destinations and perform the music his previous visits inspired. What drives the sound of this self styled world musician is not so much a fusion of styles but how cultural exploration can deepen his indie roots and performance sensibilities.
The Soup Mothers
A collective of the finest players from Taipei including Jes Cat (cello, erhu, hair colors) Scott Saulters (flute, guitar noises and wicked solos, no hair) Greggo Russell (drums, kiwi accent) and Terry "t-Bone" Engel (guitar, vocals, bass pedals). Through a variation of textures, time signatures and tempo, the music will have you clapping in 9/8 in no time.
Electric Monk
Electric Monk is Brent Scheihagen, Kyle Scheihagen, and Ed Schaefer, with special guest Kyle Jeffcoat (Fugue State). Kyle and Brent have been writing songs that span a variety of genres including rock, punk, country, blues and more.
Their lyrics are about many different things, such as the whirlwind life of nightclubs, fractured lives and relationships, or the desire to do the impossible.
Both Brent and Kyle sing as well as play guitar and bass with Kyle Jeffcoat providing color on the guitar and violin as Ed Schaefer holds it all together on the drums.
Electric Monk strives first to make you feel on a visceral level with music that makes you move: clap your hands, stomp your feet, dance, however it moves you. Listen again for the lyrics and let the music move you even more deeply. This is Electric Monk.
