The Blue Truckers

The Blue Truckers have a distinct reggae sound that has already been heard throughout Southern Taiwan. Based in Kaohsiung, the band has played in Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and the mountains of Pingtung. And on November 14, they are coming to Roxy Roots in Taipei.

The band formed in January of 2009, after a few of the members met while performing in live shows in Kaohsiung. Ryan Fernandez (USA) had performed as a solo act in Tainan and Kaohsiung, and is the rhythm guitarist and vocalist for The Blue Truckers. Simon Wallace (AU) and Mike Vair-Haley (CAN) were previously members of the band known as MA. Simon, an exceptional guitarist, now plays a mean reggae bass, while Mike stirs the crowd with lead guitar and vocals. Wade Jolliff (USA) keeps the timing tight on drums, a key element to the bands danceable sound. After 7 months of playing shows and writing songs, the band recently added a new member, Eddie Chow (AU), on the keyboard.

The Blue Truckers play a lot of original music, but pepper their set with familiar reggae classics that are great to dance and sing along to. The reggae sound goes well in the South of the island, but the boys are eager to come up North and make Taipei dance as well.
