Girl + the Machine - Biography

Girl + the Machine is an arts group specializing in multi-media production and performance. Based in the Toronto area, this multicultural collective formed in the autumn of 2003. Working with experimental music, video, and photography, GTM has been delivering a distinctive artistic experience to audiences around the globe. GTM use multi-media art to celebrate positive thought, compassion, and creativity.

Music
Girl + the Machine perform a musical synergy of trance-pop, world, and psychedelic rock. Analogue instruments compliment electro loops and sound samples. Space-guitars meld with groove bass, and break-beat drums. Girl delivers sultry sweet vocals in several different languages (English, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese). This diverse interfusion of styles appropriately serves the movements of collective conscience and progressive thought for which GTM is an artistic vehicle.

Video and Photography
Girl + the Machine combine visual images with music in video productions. Video and photography depict subject matters of social and environmental import, as well as eye-candy conclusive to mind expansion. In live performance, musical mini-adventures are synchronized with video images projected on a multi-layered canvas backdrop. This arrangement of layered screens offers a unique 3-dimensional visual experience.

Performance
Combining music, light, and video in live performance, Girl + the Machine present a phenomenal experience described as a 'psychedelic audio-visual circus'. The spectrum of performance size includes large-scale productions (with full instrumentation and visual effects), to more intimate arrangements (minimalist ambient electro or acoustic sets). GTM perform with ensembles of various sizes (2-5 members), versatile to entertain a wide range of shows and venues.
