Since 2009, WAKE UP Festival has been held by a group of teenagers, the average age has been under seventeen, who love music and play bands. In previous years, the emigrant of the young generation in Chia-yi had left the decline of music environment, which in turn, left these teenagers with no chance to enjoy music. Consequently, these teenagers expected more opportunities for independent music, so they decided to hold their own music festival. Since then, the annual WAKE UP Festival has attracted hundreds of bands from Taiwan and overseas as well as tens of thousands of audience.

This year, the fifth WAKE UP Festival will broaden its scope into a three-day event with four stages, which expected to attract over hundreds of bands and artists to participate in. The subject of the year is "Back to Chia-yi; come home." We focus on the humanism to inspire people to think about the quality of the family, the hometown, and the country.

WAKE UP Festival is not only a large annual music event but also a students’ nonprofit organization. From years, members from this organization have developed a series of activities all over Taiwan through the music festival, such as summer camp for the children of disadvantaged minority, stray animals’ issues, performance on Mothers’ day for elderly people who live in solitude, etc. Our intention is not only to participate in all kinds of public interests and social issues, but also enhance the sense of identity about our hometown by music. Furthermore, we expect people to devote themselves in social event to make Taiwan a better place.
