The other day while DJ-ing I was asked to name some of my favorite albums of the year. I realized everything that came to mind were by local bands. Indeed, some outstanding music was created on our lovely island in 2012.

While we were able to review some of them for you here (Sleaze, Forests, OCD Girl, Bowz Tiger, Roxymoron, My Skin Against Your Skin, Slack Tide, The Okay Cars...), many other deserving artists still occupy our inboxes and playlists, like 88 Balaz, Skip Skip Ben Ben, Touming Magazine, LTK, Random, Heartones, Destroyers, Manic Sheep, BHD, and Floaty... (Yes, I'll even shamelessly include my own band - it's a good disc!). Give 'em all a listen and decide for yourselves.

We also got to enjoy the birth of some fun new acts, like Wildeer, Formosa Romance and Luxury Apartments, and revel once more in the beautiful fun of Ladybug, Sticky Rice, and others.

But enough talk. It's action-time. We're all due for some ripping parties. As always, check out GigGuide.tw for details. And give it up for the bands - you don't have to look too closely to notice some are pulling double duty on this night of nights. Respect!

Highlights include:

Underworld! Yes, Underworld is still here. Who knows what the future holds... so come celebrate the perseverance of our Taipei institution with the rascally 88 Balaz and Macbeth, who will be followed by stalwart resident DJs Chema, 阿堯, 兩星半 / 大師兄(from 1976), and yours truly.

The Wall has assembled an epic line-up marked by the return of Sunset Rollercoaster and what I think will be the final Human Beings gig ever, with BHD, Forests, the White Eyes, The Tic Tac, and Flesh Juicer, among others.

Revolver is sure to be hopping as they present Forests, Roxymoron, Funky Brothers and more.

Kafka on the Shore will offer a more intimate night of top notch music with 1976, Easy, and Sign of Human.

Taichung is reporting in with Tizzy Bac, Inhuman, BB Bomb, Trash, etc.

Kaohsiung celebrates with hometown heroes KoOk, Fire Ex, and many others...

We wish you great fun and safe times wherever / however you spend New Year's Eve.
Happy 2013 Taiwan!
