Friday night I caught 包子虎 Bowz Tiger at Underworld, whose set was loaded with new songs.
How was it? There was a touch of Built To Spill, and a hint of The Strokes, but ultimately the sound remains uniquely their own, which is to say: it sounds great.

Hong Kong's My Little Airport just completed a two-town tour of Taiwan. I've been a fan for years but had never made it to any their gigs. Till now.

Saturday's sold-out show at The Wall went on for 2 hours or so (plus a 3 song encore), with a 10 minute break in the middle. I was literally crammed into a corner along the back wall, peering between heads, necks, and shoulders, my discomfort shifting into satisfaction with each favorite song. Their understated charm was on, and their sterling cover of The Undertones' Teenage Kicks was a perfect fit.

It makes me feel hopeful that such a good smart band like this enjoys such popularity. With great titles and lines like, "We have to be very strong, if we want to do something very wrong" , "Hong Kong is one big shopping mall", and " I don’t know how to download good AV like Iris does", what's not to like? Hell, even their name itself reveals everything you need to know about their clever ways. If you don't know them yet… change that.

Last up, there's a new band I'm quite curious about… Featuring Howie (Macbeth), Ethan (吸血鬼看電視 Vampire Watching Television) and Bixx from the Cat's Pajamas, Formosa Romance will make their debut on October 5 at Revolver.
